WHY THE BALLOT STAYS SHUT

People live next to each other for decades.

Publishing who voted against the levy is not transparency. It is a recipe for a very unpleasant year, and it is exactly why owners abstain rather than vote honestly.

• An owner verifies their own line

  That their weight was right, that their proxy went where they said, and that their position was recorded. That is enough to make the total trustworthy.

• Positions do not reach neighbours

  How the unit on the ninth floor voted is not disclosed to the unit on the eighth. The aggregate is shared. The detail is not.

• The manager is not an exception

  Whoever administers the building sees exactly what an owner sees. Handing the administrator an itemised list would put back the position this is meant to remove.

• We hold no view into it

  The vote runs among the owners and the motion. Running the infrastructure beneath it gives us no seat in it.
